Your Guide To A Healthy Visit

At Oceanside Veterinary Clinic, we believe every wellness visit is more than a routine checkup. It’s an opportunity to learn, prevent, and protect. Preparing for your pet’s exam ensures we can focus on what matters most: keeping your best friend happy and healthy for years to come.

Before Your Appointment: The Exam Prep Checklist

Bring or complete the following to help your visit go smoothly:

Fecal Sample

Please bring a small, fresh stool sample (collected within 24 hours) in a sealed bag or container. This helps us screen for intestinal parasites that can affect your pet’s health, and in some cases, your family’s too.

Travel Prep (if needed)

If your pet gets nervous about car rides or vet visits, consider bringing a favorite blanket, toy, or treats for comfort. For pets with more pronounced anxiety, call us ahead of time to discuss medicating your pet ahead of their visit.

Urine Sample (if requested)

If your veterinarian has asked for one, or if you have concerns about your pet’s urinary habits, collect a clean sample in a sealable container the morning of your appointment. This helps us check for urinary infections, crystals, and early signs of kidney issues.

Medication & Supplement List

Bring a list of any medications, supplements, or preventatives your pet currently takes, including dosage and how often you give them. This helps us confirm whether refills are needed or if any adjustments should be made.

Refill Requests

Know which medications are running low so we can process refill requests quickly. Include heartworm, flea/tick prevention, and any chronic medications.

Behavior & Health Notes

Take a few minutes to observe your pet at home. Are they eating differently? Scratching more? Drinking more water? Acting anxious or limping? Write down anything you’ve noticed so you don’t forget to ask about it during the visit.

Questions for Your Vet

We love proactive pet parents! Jot down any questions about diet, exercise, dental health, behavior, or general care so we can address everything during your appointment.

Why Wellness Testing Matters

Seeing Beyond What’s on the Surface

Please bring a small, fresh stool sample (collected within 24 hours) in a sealed bag or container. This helps us screen for intestinal parasites that can affect your pet’s health, and in some cases, your family’s too.

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

Detects infection, inflammation, anemia, and immune system concerns.

Blood Chemistry Panel

Evaluates organ health, hydration, blood sugar, and more.

Urinalysis

Detects urinary tract infections, kidney disease, and diabetes.

Fecal & Parasite Screening

Checks for intestinal parasites and blood-borne infections. Learn more about why annual fecal screenings matter for your pet’s health.

The Oceanside Advantage: In-House Diagnostics

We perform many of these tests right here in our hospital, which means:

  • Faster answers — same-day results during your appointment.
  • More accurate treatment plans — no waiting, no guesswork.
  • Peace of mind — knowing your pet’s care team has the full picture before you head home.

Our goal is to catch potential problems early, when they’re easiest and least expensive to treat, so your pet can enjoy a lifetime of good health.

What to Expect During the Visit

When you arrive, our team will review your pet’s medical history, discuss any new concerns, and perform a full nose-to-tail exam. Depending on your pet’s age and health, we may recommend:

  • Bloodwork or urine testing
  • Vaccination updates
  • Parasite prevention refills
  • Dental care discussions
  • Nutrition or weight management counseling

We’re Here to Partner With You

Preventive care is a partnership between our medical team and you, the person who knows your pet best. With a little preparation before your visit, we can spend more time answering your questions, addressing concerns, and keeping your pet feeling their best.
